"Now into its third year, the war has killed tens of thousands of civilians so far, displacing over 13 million Sudanese and subjecting many more to sexual violence, looting and the destruction of homes, health facilities, markets and other infrastructure," said Yousra

Who Is the War Between ?
"The war is primarily being fought between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF)"
, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), commanded by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commonly known as Hemedti,"
said Hiba
These two factions were once allies who jointly staged the 2021 coup that ousted Sudan’s transitional civilian government. However, disagreements over how to merge the RSF into the national military and who should control the country’s future erupted into full-blown war, plunging Sudan into chaos.

As the violence spreads, regions such as Darfur have suffered some of the worst atrocities. Ethnic massacres and widespread sexual violence have been reported, especially in West Darfur, where entire villages have been razed. Many international observers have warned of potential genocide, as ethnic tensions flare alongside the political conflict. Meanwhile, both warring factions have been accused of committing war crimes, and their disregard for civilian lives has only worsened the suffering.

The scale of displacement is staggering. The United Nations has declared Sudan the site of the world’s largest displacement crisis, with over 9 million people forced to leave their homes. Nearly 2 million have crossed borders into neighboring countries such as Chad, Egypt, and South Sudan, often settling in overcrowded camps with limited access to food, clean water, and medical aid. Humanitarian organizations report alarming rates of malnutrition, disease, and psychological trauma, especially among children who have lost parents or witnessed violence.
